“BIKE SAFETY 101”  -How to ride safely and legally on public roads

Offered by TheCyclist-Lawyer.com

Significant momentum and dialogue developed last August in Jefferson County as Commissioner Rosier and Lt James Lucas hosted three community meetings to discuss the growing tensions and concerns among cyclists, motorists and homeowners who live along the popular canyons and mountain climbs in JeffCo.  One conclusion Megan Hottman –both an avid cyclist as well as cycling-lawyer and advocate – reached, is that we as cyclists need to increase our education and awareness of how to ride safely and legally on public roads.  She presents these FREE seminars to help educate cyclists about safe riding behaviors, the laws applicable to cyclists, and also to advocate positive attitude change among cyclists.  Her goal:  improve the overall reputation and conduct of Front Range cyclists, and decrease the number of accidents and injuries involving cyclists.

*We hope to see cyclists of all levels at these seminars --especially new cyclists who want to learn the “rules of the road!”  We look forward to fielding questions and giving examples using photos and videos to help demonstrate concepts!

These seminars are designed for:

-cyclists of all levels, who want to learn more about the laws applicable to cyclists, motorists and shared road use

-new/inexperienced cyclists, who want to learn the actual “HOW TOs” of riding on public roads, so they can confidently and safely commute to work or simply expand their riding options by moving away from bike paths to ride more frequently on roads

-cyclists of all levels who wish to lead by example -- who are willing to make their identity known to other cyclists, motorists, and law enforcement when they ride -- by wearing a recognizable “exemplary rider” arm band.  Exemplary arm bands will be given to seminar attendees who demonstrate a command of the laws and conduct of a safe rider, and who will advocate to other cyclists and motorists in a positive, educational, amicable manner.

-bike shop employees and folks who work in the cycling industry - to inform and educate them on the laws and standards applicable to cyclist so they can spread the knowledge with their customers!

These seminars are FREE to attend. Each attendee will receive an Accident Report Card –plus we’ll raffle off a few prizes!
